Outreach Grant Awarded!!

The Phelps Community Memorial Library was recently awarded an Outreach Grant through the Pioneer Library System for Job Resource materials. Resources were purchased that feature the latest tools and strategies used by job hunters in today’s job-search process. This includes traditional (resume writing and interview techniques) and non-traditional practices such as social networking. Materials provide practical guidance for success to teens, those over fifty, unemployed, recent graduates, and those contemplating a career change.

The Job Resource Center at the Phelps Community Memorial Library is used daily. Our community is experiencing factory and shop closings, downsizing of the school district, loss of Union jobs and cut-backs on shifts. Job-seekers will find Wi-Fi, computers, practice tests, books, guides, brochures, audios, Civil Service Exams and guides for using LinkedIn and other effective networking sites. Every Monday when the library opens there are job-seekers waiting for a computer and newest Workforce Job Leads.

After listening to the requests of our job-seekers we searched for resources that are current and highly rated by job hunters. The Phelps Community Memorial Library plans to sustain the Job Resource Center by committing a portion of the annual materials budget and pursuing grants to provide money and programs for job-seekers in the community of Phelps.
